Robyn Smith is a professional artist and tutor with many years experience. She lives and works in the upper Blue Mountains and produces paintings, prints, books and mixed media works. Her initial training was at the National Art School in Sydney then subsequently at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany. She has travelled and taught extensively in Europe and the Middle East and is represented in both private and corporate collections.
She works on a number of themes which often reflect her love of travel and language and uses whatever medium best suits her particular project or vision. She often uses printmaking and its various processes to explore and extend her imagemaking."I have a pragmatic approach and don’t usually pre empt the outcome but allow myself to become involved in the material I am using so that the process is part of the pleasure."
"I don’t think of art as a potential political or social instrument. I work first for myself because I find art directly concerned with personal experience more rewarding. It strengthens my sense of individuality."
